The primer

Most well-fed children on a varied diet do not need routine supplementation — but a few nutrients are commonly under-supplied. Vitamin D deficiency is widespread in Gulf children despite abundant sunshine, largely because sun exposure is limited by climate and clothing; a daily D3 (400–600 IU depending on age) is reasonable and widely endorsed. Omega-3 DHA supports brain and vision development; a fish-oil chewable or liquid with a real DHA dose (not a token amount) is worthwhile if seafood intake is low. Multivitamin gummies are convenient and palatable but tend to be low in minerals (calcium, iron, zinc are heavy and don't fit well in a gummy) and higher in sugar — treat them as insurance, not nutrition. Elderberry syrups are pleasant during cold season, with modest but real evidence for shortening common upper-respiratory infections. Always match doses to age, and store all supplements out of children's reach — iron and vitamin overdoses are a common paediatric poisoning.
